I am wondering if anyone has a photograph of the old Forest Hill Station (Erie Railroad, at the foot of Highland Ave). I remember this building from childhood visits to my grandparents on Highland Avenue, but I have never been able to find a photo.

The city and our North Ward councilmen have made serious attempts to make significant improvements to the Mt. Prospect streetscapes between Elwood Ave. & Montclair only to see it dwarfed by the gang grafitti that has stigmatized this area and thwarts the physical and financial efforts of the community to bring pride and beauty to this historic part of Newark. What is being done about this problem?

You can't solve the graffiti problem unless you solve the gang problem. Think of these gangs as packs of wolves marking their territory. It's in the wolves nature to do this. The same goes for these gangs. It's how they where taught and it will take a miracle to change there behavior. Only two things will stop them jail or death. The police can only do so much. They can remove one gang only to find another has sprung up. If you want to solve the gang problem you need to solve poverty (impossible there will alway be haves and have nots, it just human nature) and legalize drugs. Get the money out of it, it want solve the problem completely but it will put a big dent in it. With all the good intentions of the City, (and they really tried with this one) they should have seen this coming. One thing gangs cannot stand is efforts to hurt their business, they will do all they can to stop it. They only way to truly change a neighborhood is for new comers, with means, to come in mass and change the neighborhood from the inside out (Gentrification). Unfortunately the Mt Prospect improvement district has little to offer to trigger such an event. In my view it's a lost cause and a big waste of money. All that money spent and what did you get graffiti and a new liquor store. Now that's progress!
