I would like to see historic signage installed in Forest Hill. We are long overdue. Our neighborhood was entered on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

I agree, it will and not cost much, it will be a very positive accomplishment from the City. The Mayor talks the talk about Historic Preservation. I would like to see him do the walk for a change. Provide Historic signage for Forest Hill, it is the right thing to do. 15,000,000 paid in property taxes last year, please do the right thing and keep Forest Hill Beautiful.

Regarding 144 Heller Parkway - I'm also quite upset that this presents yet another example of how all is far from equal in how Forest Hill is treated when compared against other officially designated historical districts. How can we continue to move forward as a community and attract homeowners who like us believe in this area and are committed to respecting and maintaining the historical nature and beauty of our homes if we allow violation after violation of the tenets of our historical designation? Everything from the unwarranted demolition of 144 Heller Parkway to the myriad 'For Rent' signs posted around the neighborhood continue to set us back and something must be done.

I would like to keep with the Historic Nature of Forest Hill, however, I purchased my home less than three years ago and have done everything to maintain the house which is now in need of a new roof. Clay tile is absolutely too expensive and not in my current budget. What roof modifications are allowed. I absolutely need a new roof and after several estimates it is evident that I simply cannot afford irt at this time. Any suggestions???????

Hello Anonymous and Thank you for posting to the FHCA Blog. We all understand home repairs can be very challenging and expensive. As far as advice please contact the Historic Preservation Office and they can possibly point you to funding that may be available for preserving our home. http://www.newarklandmarks.org/Contact.htm
Thanks again and good luck!

Hi Anonymous,

My slate roof needs to be replaced and estimates have been $40,000!! My contractor showed me a beautiful slate composite material replacement that is used in all the historic neighborhoods and was just approved for my roof by the Historic Preservation Office. If you would like my contractors name and information I would be more than happy to send it to your personal email.
